English Translation

We, Johan Steinhut and Else, his lawful wife, hereby make known that for a sum of money, namely nine good and heavy Rhenish guilders from overseas, which have been fully paid to us, we have sold to Herman Kremer an annual rent of one malder of good, clean grain, half rye and half barley, measured according to the Bochum measure, to be raised and delivered yearly from our house and hereditary property situated within Bochum, which we presently own and possess.

And we, the aforesaid Johann and Else, have appeared before the honourable mayor and council of the city of Bochum and have lawfully transferred these rights. And since this transfer and agreement has taken place before us, the aforesaid mayor and council, we have, in testimony of the truth, caused the common civic seal of Bochum to be affixed to this charter.

And we, Herman Voß and Johan Schütte, mayors at this time, also declare that we were present at the aforesaid sale. Likewise present at and involved in this transaction were negotiating and purchase witnesses, namely Diderick Springorum, Gerdt up dem Keller, and many other worthy people.

Given in the year of our Lord one thousand four hundred sixty-one, on the feast day of Saint Clement the Holy Pope.
