Verkauf Nodderhoiff an vom Loe

27 February 1573 · Hunthamme, Bochum, Deutschland

Notarieller Erbverzicht durch Springorum

The 1573 deed records the sale of the hereditary estate "Nodderhoiff" in Hunthamme (within the parish of Bochum) by Johann Springorum and Marie Beckman to Melchior vom Loe zur Dornenburgh and Ida von der Reck, aimed at alleviating financial distress and settling the husband’s parental debts. The transaction, notarized by Wessel von der Hembeck under the authority of Duke Wilhelm of Cleve, includes a permanent waiver of all rights to the property—except for feudal obligations—and secures the sale with a pledge of the sellers’ house, land, and movable assets in Bochum. The document, sealed and witnessed by local officials, reflects both the economic challenges of the era and the legal practices of 16th-century Westphalia.

Wessel von der Hembeck, by order of Wilhelm, Duke of Cleve, Jülich, and Berg, Count of Mark and Ravensberg, Lord of Ravenstein, etc., and Judge of Bochum, hereby certifies: That before him, the spouses Johann Springorum and Marie Beckman, established citizens of Bochum, declared that—due to their financial distress and to settle the husband’s parental debts—they have sold their hereditary estate called Nodderhoiff in Hunthamme located within the jurisdiction and parish of Bochum, along with its inhabitants, children, and all associated services, in perpetuity and without right of redemption, to the spouses Melchior vom Loe zur Dornenburgh and Ida von der Reck.

The sellers renounce all rights in the seated court (with hand, mouth, and the granting of a straw). They pledge and promise to uphold all provisions of this deed of sale.

On the sold estate, the following sovereign burdens remain: 1 malter of grain, 1 tribute pig, 5 shillings, as well as feudal taxes, feudal rights, and the rights of neighbors, farmers, and the church. Otherwise, it is a free and unencumbered hereditary estate, not subject to any services (to lords or officials). The lands are tithe-free.

To secure the buyers, the sellers pledge their house and courtyard at Brugporten which they currently inhabit, as well as their field with woods and ponds called Peddenbroich and all their other movable and immovable property in Bochum or elsewhere.

Reinhart Berswort acts as guarantor.
